When I think of a wrap dress, Diane von Furstenberg comes to my mind! That is because she created the iconic wrap dress in 1974 prior to the silhouette that was around for several decades. Her version was a collared, long sleeved shirt dress wrapped around the torso in such a way that it easily accentuated curves while hiding any undesirable bulge and she sold millions of them.
Wrap dresses are flattering, versatile, easy to wear, and style and have played a huge role in the lives of two generations of women and continues to be a staple in women’s closets even today. The wrap dress truly is one of the most flattering dresses I have come across; it truly never goes out of style! However, rotating through the same wrap dress in the same style can quickly get boring.
HOW TO STYLE A WRAP DRESS IN 3 WAYS
I bought this polka dot wrap dress from Simplee store on Aliexpress and it got to Nigeria in 2 weeks. This dress has been a go-to of mine lately and I have styled it different ways; I seriously cannot get enough of it! Today I am going to show you how you can style a wrap dress in three ways.
Worn as a kimono
The trick to wearing a wrap dress as a kimono is to start thinking in layers. I wore a twist-front strapless top, flared cropped jeans, wide brim hat, and elevated the look with a pair of strap block heels.
If you are going to the beach, turn some heads and wear your dress as your cover up. With a slim bodysuit a pair of jean shorts.
Worn as a skirt
I love finding how to use pieces in an unconventional way. For this look, I wore the dress as a skirt. I folded the dress at the mid-section and wrapped it around my waist. I paired it with a white T-shirt, a gold-layered necklace and a strap block heels for a Parisian chic look. You can recreate this look with a graphic T-shirts, and flat sandals.
For the second look, I wanted to create a street style look. I switched the strap sandals for white sneakers and paired it with a wide brim hat.
Are you are heels or a sneaker girl?
Worn as a itself
This is self-explanatory but I was going for a look suitable for a Polo event. I wore the wrap dress how it should be worn. I styled it with stiletto heels, a wide brim hat I am obsessed with and a mini black bag. You can style this look to church and swap the stiletto for block heels.
It’s a wrap for me! If you feel like a woman, wear a wrap dress!
